A socio-economic history of the Moroccan diaspora in Egypt. The story of a community made up mainly of Fasi merchants, and their ascendance within Egyptian society starting with the 16th century. During the 18th century, the Chraibi merchants amassed a considerable fortune and became "kingmakers" of Egypt through the loans they made to the Mameluk rulers.
